Cacao Powder (Theobroma cacao)

Pure chocolate comes from the seeds of the Theobroma cacao plant. This plant grows naturally in South America, regions of Africa and the West Indies. The cacao tree was cultivated in Mexico and in Central and South America for many years before the European discovery of America. Our cacao powder comes exclusively from a native co-op community near Iquitos. The cacao bean is the seed of the fruit and is often thought of as a culinary nut. Cacao is widely regarded as a "super food". Cacao and cocoa are both high in polyphenols such as epicatechin. The less processed the cacao, the higher the content of polyphenols.
