Preparations

Mucuna is tropical climbing legume traditionally consumed as a food and medicinal plant in Brazil and many other parts of the world. In Mexico and Guatemala, the roasted, ground seeds have for decades served as a substitute for coffee.

A decoction of the seeds is traditionally taken at a dosage of one-half to a full cup, 2 times a day.

To prepare a decoction of the powdered seeds, bring 8 oz. of water to a boil in a pot, add 1 tsp. of the powder, cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, and allow the mixture to boil for 5 minutes. Reduce the temperature to medium and allow the mixture to simmer for 20 minutes. Pour the decoction through a fine tea-strainer to remove any sediment and allow it to cool for a time before drinking. Refrigerate unused portions in a well sealed container.

Caution: Not for internal use during pregnancy or lactation. If you are taking medications or have a medical condition, consult with a health care professional before use. Keep this product out of the reach of children.
