Chanca Piedra is taken in the form of a fluid extract (tincture), in capsules, and traditionally as an infusion (tea) or decoction. Whether as an infusion or decoction, 1 cup is taken 1 to 4 times daily.
To prepare an infusion of Chanca Piedra, place 1 tsp. of the herb in a tea ball or gauze bag and allow them to steep in 8 oz. of freshly boiled hot water in a covered ceramic pot for 10–15 minutes. Pour the infusion through a fine strainer to remove any sediment and allow it to cool for a time before drinking. Refrigerate unused portions in a well -sealed container.
To prepare a decoction of Chanca Piedra, 1 tsp. of the herb is used for each 8 oz. of water. Using medium-high heat, bring water to a boil in an open ceramic pot and then add the herb. Reduce the heat to medium-low and place the lid on the pot. Allow the mixture to simmer for 20 minutes. Pour the mixture through a fine strainer and allow it to cool for a time before drinking. Refrigerate unused portions in a well sealed container.
